Financing college is daunting. When you factor in room, board, tuition, fees, books, and other living expenses, it can be very easy to spend over $20,000 a year. This is a huge amount, and I remember being able to attend a major university 30 years ago for 1/5 of that! Inflation has not increased that much.
However, the good news is that most students and parents do not really spend that much every year from their personal funds. Financial aid in the form of grants and scholarships help the majority of students at 4 year colleges. However wading through the complexities of finding some financial help can be much tougher then it used to be.
